Two years ago I received a phone call from Juan Agustin Marquez, director of Documental 100,000. He told me of his plans to show the world the dog crisis of Puerto Rico. WE at Island Dog happily participated in the video, with big hopes that the world would see our fight and join us. We at Island Dog want to congratulate Juan and his crew for creating an amazing, tear jerking documentary. Recently they won an Emmy! We are so proud to be apart of this video and hope that one day the entire world will be able to view the informative documentary.
Below is some footage of Island Dog in the documentary

One of my favorite art galleries, City Folk, is located in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. Three years ago, the owners of the gallery, Karen and Rick Anderer, contacted me about adopting one of our Island Dogs, Chico. Chico was one of my personal favorites, and I had a very hard time separating myself from him. But after speaking with Karen, I realized she was the most perfect mom for Cheeks. Cheeks is now Pablo and he can often be found in City Folk Gallery, with his mommy and brother Argus.
Through the years City Folk has become huge supporters of Island Dog and recently gathered their favorite artists to donate works to help us raise funds. As part of the City Folk Mission Project artists, Jac Johnson and Seth Cluley donated two wonderful pieces of art to support our dogs. Both pieces will make great holiday gifts or add whimsy to your art collection! Check them out! For more information and bidding options, please click on the photos.

Throughout the years I have learned many things about owning and running a non profit organization. Many people seem to believe that non profits own a magic bank and that because we are doing something good, there is always money in that bank. Unfortunately that is far from the truth. And often we at Island Dog spend many sleepless nights brainstorming on how we can raise more money so that we can help the new batch of pups dumped on the beach that day. It's a never ending battle for us, as we are not funded by the Puerto Rico or US Government, yet we are doing work that is desperately needed. Bottom line, the only reason we survive and can do so many wonderful things for the dogs of Puerto Rico is because of PEOPLE LIKE YOU and our many wonderful volunteers.
Recently we held two big fundraisers in New York and New Jersey. The Red Collar Lunch, hosted by the wonderful Karen Ierna, was held in Rocky Point NY and The 4th Annual Island Dog Party was hosted by the amazing Alison Trazzera and Ashley Costello at Harrahs Casino in Atlantic City, New Jersey. Both fundraisers were beautifully executed and raised money to help us continue to change the lives of the dogs in the US Caribbean.
I feel privlegaged and blessed to know so many wonderful and amazing people....not to mention lucky. There are not enough words in the world to express my gratitude and "thank you" just seems so small. Even though it does seem small, it means the world, thank you all who contributed, dedicated time, and support...thank you from the bottom of my heart.
